Asking for a raise is not easy. Usually, to request it we have to arrange a meeting with our boss or immediate manager and, from there, argue the reason why we want to charge more. Not many employees are willing to do it this year.
The latest survey carried out on the Intention to request a salary increase by workers reveals that only 15% intend to request it in 2023. Last year, when asked about the same thing, 34% answered yes.
Experts consider that this gap could be related to the publication in the BOE of Royal Decree 152/2022, which set the minimum interprofessional salary at 1,000 euros. It must be taken into account, of course, that among the 21% of those who will not request it, 21% affirm that their company will raise it and 15% explain that they have already received an increase in recent months so that there would be no point in asking for a raise now.
But what about those who have no prospect of a salary increase and have not recently experienced an increase? If you are in this group and have doubts about whether or not it is appropriate to ask, perhaps you should know for what reasons it would be justified to ask for a salary increase.
5 Most Effective Reasons to Ask for a rise up
1. For the time you have been working in the company
You can allude to a reason for antiquity. If you have been with the company for many years, it may be time to ask for a raise and negotiate it. It is an option to argue for it through values such as continued fidelity and dedication over time, good predisposition and collaboration in the organization’s projects and the will to continue offering everything on your part for the company.
2. For having assumed new responsibilities
If there have been changes lately and you have had to assume new responsibilities that will last over time , the most logical thing is that your salary should be increased. If the company or your manager has not taken this into account, it would be fully justified to request the increase.
3. For having promoted to a new position or position
It is also common for there to be a promotion to a different position or a higher position than the previous one. In these cases, it will be the company that determines the new salary corresponding to the position. But if this does not happen, this may be another reason to ask for a salary increase. It is coherent that if you must assume new responsibilities and attributions, these will be rewarded with an increase.
4. For being charged an amount below the average salary range in your sector
There are ways to find out what the median salary range is in your industry. If you find yourself earning below the median salary range , this may also be a good time to request a payroll upgrade.
5. For having an offer in another company that improves your current salary
It is an interesting trick, but you have to know how to play it. The fact of having an offer from another company that considerably improves your salary conditions is very good, but it is essential that you do not use this situation as a pressure tool. If your manager or boss feels that you are acting coercively, they may throw in the towel and let you go. If you are interested in staying with the company and you know that incorporating another person into your position is complicated, it may help you get the raise you want.
